My name is Justin Kent and I started Get Online Right to share my knowledge of website creation.

The way I got my education was part engineering school and part school of hard knocks. In high school, I scored a job doing a website for NASA, which is how I got my first access to the Internet. Unfortunately, I didn’t know much about how to build a website back then, and soon found my dialup access revoked. I went on to college at MIT, where I studied computer science, but the curriculum contained surprisingly little about the Internet or how to build a website. It was more focused on theoretical things, like algorithms and artificial intelligence. So when I tried to make a site, I was pretty much learning as I went, searching for tutorials and how-to guides online.

Fifteen years later, I’ve discovered a lot about what it takes to make a great website. One of my favorite things is sharing that knowledge with other people, and helping them get online the right way. So I’ve created this site as a place to send people when they ask me questions about building their own sites.

I live in Miami. By day, I’m a web developer for the Miami Herald, where I work on sites like MiamiHerald.com and Miami.com. By night I’m an Experience Jockey – a futuristic evolution of the DJ. I invented an optical turntable system to scratch video. I do a fair amount of speaking engagements, so I guess people respect what I have to say. I also do live performances with my patented MIDI Turntable. If you’re interested in that stuff, you can learn more about it at my personal website – JustinKent.com – where there are plenty of videos and photos. Get Online Right is devoted to building websites, and to helping you understand the best way to create your own online home.
